IBM has said that release V6R1, will come out in early 2008. The future i5/OS release will have an integrated web services development environment, introduce the MySQL relational database running in PASE. IBM and MySQL plan to work together so the MySQL database can use DB2/400 as the storage engine on a System i platform.
Some other changes for the RPG language have to do with declaration of Local Files in subprocedure, field sizes to 16 megabytes and File Handles support for passing a file handle to a subprocedure and the subprocedure will open the file. There will also be other changes and additions to V6R1.
